Senior Engineer
(Safety Critical Systems Test)

  1. Job Purpose

We are thrilled to be expanding our systems engineering skills and capability in safety critical systems and have an exciting opportunity the right person. Your work will involve the coordination and control of test and acceptance activities, including qualification, for a safety critical system. This system incorporates mechanical, hardware, software and firmware components. This will see you in a lead role that will require customer facing aspects, mentoring and directing of the test and acceptance team.

Reporting to the Project Manager, This role is for a Safety Critical System Test and Acceptance Lead for a real time embedded solution encompassing Software, Firmware, Hardware and Mechanical aspects.

  1. Generate and document the processes and procedures required to ensure successful test and acceptance of a safety critical project.
  2. Represent the company and project at external stakeholder meetings.
  3. Provision of mentoring across project personnel.
  4. Influence the system design with respect to the test regimes required i.e. Design for test aspects.
  5. Liaise and co-operate with the Project Manager and System Design Authority to resolve technical issues.
  6. Be able to handle classified information in the course of your work.
  7. Support to the business development team and preparation of technical proposals when required.
  8. Participate in project reviews and support/organise presentations at relevant Design Review Meetings
  9. Evaluate, mitigate and manage engineering risks across projects for which you will be directly/indirectly responsible.
  10. Be able to manage, motivate and develop test engineering employees to ensure they fulfil their roles and meet targets within agreed timelines, budgets and standards of quality.

  2. What you’ll need
  1.  
  1. Proven experience of working within a Safety Critical multi-disciplinary test team/environment up to and including SIL 4.
  2. Understanding of the complete lifecycle for delivering safety critical systems.
  3. Understanding of requirements traceability and verification and validation in a safety critical system.
  4. Understanding of the rigorous testing regimes that need to be employed including all aspects of acceptance including qualification testing (Environmental and EMC).
  5. Fully conversant with appropriate test tool suites applied to safety critical projects.
  6. Working knowledge of the various standards required for safety critical systems e.g. Def Stan 05-055, 59-114, ISO 25051, ISO 24748, ISO 12207, BS EN 61508, ISO 15288.
  7. Knowledge of real time embedded safety critical systems.
  8. In-depth knowledge and experience in all aspects of safety critical systems test and acceptance activities.
  9. Have a high level of both verbal and written communication skills providing regular communication to internal and external stakeholders, customers and suppliers.
  10. Ability to present complex ideas to all levels of the customer community and both internal and external Stakeholders.
  11. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multi-site team.
  12. Innovative and creative thinking.
  13. Willingness to work as part of a collaborative enterprise with other companies.
  14. UK National with the ability to be SC/DV cleared.
