Renesas is looking for a Principal Application Engineer, to play a key part in the development of high-performance power management integrated circuits (PMIC’s) for industrial, infrastructure, IOT and consumer power applications.  In this role, you will engage in multiple elements of the company’s product development process and work on a wide range of high-performance switching power converters, linear regulators and related circuitry.  The role is ideal for an experienced, self-motivated individual who can consistently deliver in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to analyze, debug, and solve a wide variety of problems, and who possesses the interpersonal and technical capabilities to mentor and lead other engineers.

 

Your Role:

 

  • Leadership of Applications Group activities on project(s) as allocated – activity definition, planning, coordination, documenting, reporting, delivery.
  • New silicon evaluation and characterization (hands-on work in the lab).
  • Evaluation PCB development – schematic design, layout support, first article debug/integration/test.
  • Bench test automation including hands-on test script development.
  • Liaison with other technical disciplines including Design, Test, Product Engineering, Software and QA.
  • Preparation of customer documentation (e.g. user manuals, design guidelines, application notes).
  • Customer support during design-in, bring-up and system evaluation activities.
  • Mentoring and support of less experienced application engineers.
  • Participation in process improvement initiatives.

  

Your profile:

 

  • Degree level or equivalent qualification in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in power electronics as an application engineer in the semiconductor industry or board level electronic design engineer.
  • Good understanding of analog, mixed signal, and power electronics circuits and systems.
  • Good understanding of DC/DC converter (buck, boost, buck-boost, charge pump) and LDO regulator topologies and control-schemes.
  • Good understanding of EMC principles and management.
  • Proficient in the use of lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, spectrum analysers, network analysers and function generators.
  • Experienced in PCB design for switching regulators, linear regulators and high-speed/low-noise mixed signal circuits (circuit design, component selection, schematic capture, physical layout and DFM).
  • Programming and laboratory automation experience (e.g. Python, C/C++, LabVIEW).
  • Leadership capabilities to mentor and coordinate the work of other engineers.
  • Results-oriented and able to deliver on-time in a fast-moving environment.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Able to undertake occasional international travel.
